Our Story

The site of Hazelhurst Arts Centre was bequeathed to Sutherland Shire Council in the 1990s by its owners Ben and Hazel Broadhurst, with the instruction that Hazelhurst become a place of culture for the whole community.

Ben and Hazel Broadhurst

In the 1940s, Ben and Hazel Broadhurst transformed their humble cottage into a vibrant hub of creativity and inspiration, laying the foundation for what would become the Hazelhurst Gallery. Driven by their passion for art and community, the Broadhursts infused every corner with the elegance and charm of the Art Deco style, hosting gatherings that sparked artistic collaborations and cultural exchanges.
